In Vietnam, you can get anything and everything - from silk to handicrafts, electronic items to interesting souvenirs - at a cheaper price than anywhere else, provided you have the time and patience to look for it and bargain shamelessly! You need to know where to go for what and half your job is done. For example, the Dong Khoi street is a must visit in Saigon for excellent silk. Vietnamese silk is exquisite and delicate and available in a stunning array of colours. You'll also find some breathtaking handicrafts here.

In Hanoi, head for the Old Quarter of 36 streets for stunning souvenirs and fascinating fine art items. Electronic items at dirt cheap rates are also all over the place.
